Q.What is BIS Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS)?

Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) on 3 Oct 2012, gave "Electronics and Information Technology Goods (Requirement for Compulsory Registration) Order, 2012" with a rundown of 20-21 categories of hardware items.  According to the Order, no individual is permitted to produce or store the told merchandise available to be purchased or import or sell or convey the advised products, which don't agree to the Indian Standards.

Thus, it is essential for the manufacturer of the listed electronic products to apply for BIS registration by following the prescribed procedure:

  1. Manufacturers of the products notified in the scheme which is located in India or outside India.
  2. The separate Registration number for products being manufactured at different locations.
  3. The separate Registration number for each brand being manufactured at the same location.
